Who & What Do We Treat

Psychiatric Evaluation 60 minutes

At Brighter Day Psychiatry, we prioritize providing a seamless and effective psychiatric evaluation process. To ensure a smooth experience, we kindly request that intake forms be completed 72 hours prior to your visit, allowing us to verify your insurance and input your information into our system.

During the evaluation, which typically lasts 60 minutes, our goal is to establish a rapport with you as we delve into various aspects of your life, including medical, social, family, and psychiatric histories. We discuss current symptoms, external stressors, and utilize the DSM-5 to aid in diagnosis.

Treatment recommendations, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological, are tailored to your individual needs. Following the evaluation, we schedule a follow-up appointment within 2-4 weeks to assess treatment efficacy and discuss any medication side effects. Importantly, this initial evaluation also serves as an opportunity for both parties to determine if a therapeutic relationship is the right fit. Think of it as an initial date, where both comfort and compatibility are essential.

  • Controlled Substances

At our practice, patient safety and responsible prescribing practices are paramount considerations. As such, we adhere strictly to regulations set forth by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regarding controlled substances. Controlled substances, such as benzodiazepines (e.g., Xanax, Ativan, Valium), hypnotics (e.g., Lunesta, Ambien), and stimulants (e.g., Adderall, Ritalin), are powerful medications with significant potential for abuse and adverse effects. Consequently, we do not routinely prescribe these medications unless clinically indicated and deemed necessary for your treatment plan.

Furthermore, any individual being considered for a controlled substance prescription will undergo a urine drug screen prior to initiation of the medication and periodically thereafter at the provider's discretion. This protocol helps ensure that patients are using prescribed medications responsibly and are not engaging in substance misuse or abuse. It's important to note that if a urine drug screen detects substances such as marijuana, alcohol, or excessive amounts of caffeine, it may impact the decision to prescribe a controlled substance.

Our practice is committed to promoting patient well-being and minimizing potential risks associated with controlled substances. We encourage open communication and collaboration to explore alternative treatment options that align with your needs and goals. Your health and safety are our top priorities, and we appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a safe and effective treatment environment. If you have any questions or concerns about our controlled substance policy, please don't hesitate to discuss them with your provider.
